- 1). Click on the "Start" button in the screen's lower-left corner. This opens the Start menu.
- 2). Click the "Control Panel" from this menu.
- 3). Within the Control Panel, click on "Appearance and Personalization" and then "Personalization."
- 4). Click "Change desktop icons" from the left pane of the window that opens.
- 5). Uncheck the boxes next to the buttons that you want to disable. For instance, you might want to uncheck the boxes next to "My Computer," "My Documents" and "My Network Places."
- 6). Click "OK."
