  An XML (extensible markup language) database allows you to store files using the XML format. These systems operate the same way as standard databases. You can run queries on data, and you can import and export information. XML database tools allow you to map and run queries on your data.
  
  

XMLSpy 2011

• This is a tool that works with the most common databases, including Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL), Microsoft Access, Sybase, MySQL and IBM Database (DB) 2. The XMLSpy tool allows you to connect to these databases, and import and/or export data between the different databases. You can also create an XML database based on the information stored in these other databases. And you can run queries on data stored within the different databases. Other features of this tool include: the ability to edit queried data and then make these changes permanent. This program uses a graphical user interface (GUI), allowing you to run commands using check-boxes, wizards and radio buttons, as opposed to writing code. There is a free demo version of this software, which allows you to test drive the system. The full version, however, costs between $189 and $999, as of October 2010.
  
  

Stylus Studio

• The Stylus Studio 2010 XML Enterprise Suite is a comprehensive set of tools that allow you to work with XML databases and run queries on data. You can use these tools to edit data contained within the databases, and you can create models of and debug your XML applications. Other features of this tool include a function that creates XML reports using "extensible stylesheet language formatting objects" (XSL-FO), Extensible Stylesheet Language Tutorial and XQuery. You can later output this information to HyperText Markup Language (HTML), or portable document format (PDF) format. There is a shareware version of this software program, which means that you can use it for free for a limited time period. Once that time period expires; however, you must purchase the full version, which costs between $99 and $695, as of October 2010.
  
  

Data Integration Suite

• This is a set of tools that allow you to create maps of you data, and you can use these tools to run tests on and fix your databases. You can use these tools to create and deploy applications, and you can also run queries on your data. Other features of this tool include a program that can edit your database data, and profile your system to determine where bottlenecks are occurring. This program is scalable, which means that you can update or expand it, based on your needs. There is also a shareware version of this program. You must contact the company to obtain a product quote.
