American automaker General Motors began selling the 2010 Camaro in 2009 through its Chevrolet division. The 2010 Camaro marked the return of the sports car, which had been out of production since 2002. For its inaugural year, Chevy offered three different engines in the Camaro including a V-6 and two versions of a V-8. - The base engine for the 2010 Camaro is GM's LLT V-6. It has 3.6 liters of displacement and uses dual overhead cams. The LTT also has a bore and stroke of 3.70 inches by 3.37 inches. It's maximum power output in the 2010 Camaro is 304 horsepower at 6,400 engine rpm and 273 ft-lb of torque at 5,200 rpm.
- The 2010 Camaro also uses GM's LS3 V-8 engine, which first appeared in the Chevrolet Corvette sports car. It has a push-rod overhead valve-train and 6.2 liters of total displacement. The LS3 has a bore and stroke of 4.07 inches by 3.62 inches. The LS3 produces 426 horsepower at 5,900 rpm and 420 ft-lb of torque at 4,600 rpm.
- The L99 is a V-8 engine based on the LS3. Buyers of the 2010 Camaro could opt for the L99 in any SS (super sport) Camaro that would otherwise feature the standard LS3 V-8. The L99 differs from the LS3 by adding an electronic system known as Active Fuel Management, or AFM. This system allows the engine to shut down half of its cylinders and run on four cylinders when there's little need for power. This reduces total output but improves fuel economy in the 2010 Camaro. The L99 shares the LS3's 6.2-liter V-8 size, as well as its 4.07 inches by 3.62 inches bore and stroke. However, its maximum power is 400 horsepower at 5,900 rpm and 410 ft-lb of torque 4,300 rpm.
