How do I Level a Deck on a 12.5 Murray Mower?

    • 1). Drive the mower to a flat area where you can have access to the mower from all sides. Set the parking brake by pressing the brake pedal all the way down while you pull the parking brake lever up. Release the brake. If the brake pedal remains in the depressed position, the parking brake is set. Turn off the mower and remove the key.

    • 2). Open the hood of the mower. Disable the engine by removing the spark plug wire from the spark plug. This is to make sure the blade cannot engage while leveling the mower deck.

    • 3). Check each tire with a tire gauge to ensure that it's inflated to manufacturer specifications as listed in your owner's manual. Inflate or deflate the tires as needed. Tires that aren't correctly inflated will cause the deck to quickly become unlevel after adjustment.

    • 4). Raise the mower as high as possible by moving the lift lever to its highest position. Lock the lever into place. Measure the distance from the center of both of the sides of the mower deck to the ground. Each distance should be within a 1/4 inch of the other. If they aren't, adjust one side of the deck to equalize the height of both sides.

    • 5). Adjust one side by turning the link adjustment nut on that side. The adjustment nut is located directly beneath the deck suspension arm on the side of the deck toward the front connected to the linkage arms. Tighten the nut to raise the deck, loosen the nut to lower the deck. Check the height again. Continue making small adjustments until the deck is level on both sides.

    • 6). Return the lift lever to the desired cutting height. Reattach the spark plug wire to the spark plug and close the hood. Start the engine and release the parking brake to begin cutting a level path.
