- Depict a scene from the movie, with the cake as a background for "Star Wars" figurines. There are desert planets that can be frosted with shades of light brown, and ice planets that can be frosted in white. Sculpt the cake top with hills and valleys to make it more interesting. You can also use molded chocolate lollipop figures in a scene cake. Candy melts of all colors can be found at most craft stores. Use colored candy and paint brushes to paint the inside of the mold and let dry before filling with melted chocolate. Use the sticks to anchor the figures in the cake top.
- You can draw a favorite character in icing on top of a flat cake, or sculpt a cake covered with fondant to make a character face or mask. Experienced cake makers can tackle a 3-D standing R2D2 android cake with painted details. An AT-AT cake can be made with wooden legs as a base and cake sculpted to make the body. An easy and popular cake choice is a light saber with the light end covered in frosting and matching sparking sugar. Another option would be individual TIE Fighter cupcakes using mini-bundt cupcake molds as the base shape. Cover cakes with fondant and paint on details with thinned food coloring. Wings can be made from thin sugar cookies or cardboard.
- Does your "Star Wars" fan have a photo of himself in costume? Does she have a favorite scene from one of the movies? You can put an edible photograph on top of a cake. These can be printed at home with special edible inks and paper for a customized cake topper. It can be expensive to buy these products, however, and many bakeries and online companies can make the photo sheets for you using your favorite images.
- The Wilton company made many character pans including Darth Vader, Boba Fett, R2D2 and a "Star Wars" spaceship, but these pans were discontinued in the 1980s. Chocolate molds of Storm Troopers, Yoda, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and the androids also were made and retired. Many of these items can be found on websites such as eBay or specialty vintage baking supply sites since loyal "Star Wars" fans still want to have cakes of their favorite characters.
