- 1). Insert the blank disc into the drive. Click the Windows "Start" button on the server and type "cmd" in the search text box. Press "Enter" to open the command prompt.
- 2). Type "mkdir d:\boot" in the command prompt, where "d" is the drive letter for your disc drive. Press "Enter" to format and create the boot directory on the disc.
- 3). Type "xcopy /H C:\bootmgr d:\", where "d" is the disc drive letter. Press "Enter." The "bootmgr" files copy to the disc.
- 4). Type "reg save HKLM\BCD00000000 d:\boot\bcd" and press "Enter." This command saves the server's important registry keys to the boot disc.
- 5). Click the Windows "Start" button on the server and click "Computer." Double-click the disc drive letter to open Windows Explorer. Click "Close Session" to close the disc session. Remove the disc from the drive and store it in a safe location.
