- 1). Click the Battery icon on the main toolbar.
- 2). Choose "Energy Saver Preferences..."
- 3). Choose a Default scheme (click on "Restore Defaults"), or edit the "Custom" setting.
- 4). Click "Sleep" or move the sliders to adjust the amount of time before your monitor and your computer are put to sleep.
- 5). Click "Options" to choose which battery features you would like to utilize. In newer Mac laptop models, check the boxes you wish to activate. Each of these options can increase the life of your battery.
- 6). Close the window when finished, your changes will have been saved automatically.
