- 1). Locate the two points in your electrical system that you will use to measure the electrical current, or volts, in the electrical circuit.
- 2). Turn the voltmeter on so that the display is active. This will enable you to read the voltage that will be displayed when you connect the voltmeter to the electrical circuit.
- 3). Connect each wire coming out of the voltmeter to the two points in the circuit that you wish to measure. Note the volts indicated on the voltmeter's display to record the power that is traveling between the two points in the circuit.
- 4). Find a location where you want to mount the voltmeter. Bear in mind that it must be able to reach the two electrical points that you will be measuring.
- 5). Insulate the connections that are created when you wire the voltmeter to the two points in your electrical circuit, using electrical tape.
