- Applicants for the Park Scholarship program at North Carolina State University are evaluated on the basis of academic achievement, leadership, service and personal character. This is a merit-based scholarship, and financial need is not taken into consideration during the selection process. Applicants are required to attend a 20- to 30-minute interview conducted by a panel of two to three alumni and faculty. Interviews cannot be rescheduled. Semifinalists are notified by Dec. 21, and finalists are notified by March 2. Applicants must be incoming first-year students to be eligible and must also be citizens of the United States.
- The Park Scholarship pays for the entirety of a recipient's undergraduate tuition, educational fees, room and board, textbooks, travel and personal expenses. This award is valued at $86,000 for in-state students and $136,000 for out-of-state students. Recipients also receive a stipend of $2,200 to purchase a state-of-the-art computer that is specific to their major. In addition, grants are made available to Park Scholars for research and travel, both domestic and international.
- In addition to the generous financial benefits to recipients, the Park Scholarship program provides several forms of academic support and professional development opportunities. Park Scholars may receive one-on-one guidance from a faculty mentor. They may also take advantage of professional development opportunities, including weekly freshman seminars, presentations by renowned speakers, field experiences in both North Carolina and Washington, D.C., community-building retreats and participation in institutes such as the Leadership Academy.
- Students must apply for the Park Scholarship Program when they submit their initial application for acceptance to North Carolina State University. Both applications are available online. In addition to submitting a scholarship application, students must submit two essays, the names of two references and an official high school transcript. The high school transcript may be mailed; all other materials must be submitted online. All applications must be received no later than Nov. 1.
