As the late stages of Alzheimer's approaches, you will come to realise that all the treatment, support, help and attention that your loved one has received, has not helped them in any great way, they are now approaching the end of their life.
You will find that your loved one will probably start to relive their past, as this will be easier for them to remember.
If this happens, it is far better to go along with what they are saying and encourage them to talk about it.
Keeping your loved one calm and at peace with themselves is far better for them.
By correcting them you will only make them anxious and confused, and this is not what you want them to go through.
When your loved one is approaching the late stages of Alzheimer's, they probably will no longer be able to recognise themselves or you.
They will no longer know where they are, or even what day or month it is.
As with some cases your loved one might have even turned violent and aggressive towards anyone that comes near them.
Try not to get upset, at seeing your loved act in this way, this happens to most Alzheimer sufferers.
They will need help with their toiletry needs as they will most likely be unable to manage on their own, at this stage.
They will no longer be able to wash and bathe themselves unaided.
These simple tasks will become too difficult for them to do.
When your loved one reaches the late stages of Alzheimer's they will no longer be able to walk unaided.
They will find it hard to even sit in a chair and hold there head up.
You will notice that they start to drop things quite easily.
You might notice if they do try to walk they shuffle about, and can easily bang into things.
You will also notice that your loved one starts to lose weight.
This is due to their reflexes and muscles no longer working properly.
They will find it hard to chew food and swallow it without it being to painful.
Your doctor will be able to give advice on this and start your loved one on a liquid diet.
Hopefully keeping them from getting pain in their throat and mouth.
Although at this stage they might find it too difficult to communicate with you, your loved one still wants to be spoken to.
You could talk to them about their life, what they did, what music they liked, and many other things they may have done with their life.
If they can still see, bring them photos in for them to look at with you.
It is best at this stage to make sure that not too many people visit all at once, as you will find that too much noise will only upset them.
At the late stages of alzheimer's your loved one will probably be in a care home.
This is for the best as you will realize, they will be getting all the care that they need by specialized people.
The staff can make sure that your loved is not at risk of getting an infection.
This can happen if your loved one is bed bound, as their immune system starts to weaken.
Remember they might not be able to tell you if they are in pain, if you think that they are then ask a doctor to take a look at them for you.
The late stages of alzheimer's is very difficult to cope with.
This is true for the patient, and the people close to the patient.
Unfortunately there is no way of avoiding this at the present time.
