Risk Analysis of Gym Equipment

    Function

    • Performing a risk analysis of gym equipment is an effective way to study the conspicuous and inconspicuous hazards that pervade. Once a risk assessment is conducted, precautionary measures can be instituted by the club to ensure gym-goers are not in danger when they use the equipment.

    Regulations

    • Certain federal regulations apply to community gyms as established by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA sets health and safety standards to ensure the public is safe from things such as the spread of infectious diseases, contamination and accidental injuries. Accordingly, gym equipment must be analyzed to determine if OSHA regulations are being followed. For instance, sanitizing and disinfecting gym equipment (and keeping sanitation records on premises) ensures exposure to germs are minimized.

    Condition

    • Risk surveyors must analyze the condition of gym equipment to determine how safe it is to use. Equipment that is rusty or has a significant amount of wear and tear may not be deemed safe, and will need to be repaired or replaced.
