How to Overseed With Scotts

    • 1). Lower the wheels on your lawn mower so it will cut slightly lower than usual. Proceed to cut the lawn and rake off all the cut grass.

    • 2). Spread a thin layer of enriched soil over your lawn. Make sure the layer of soil is less than 1/4 inch or it can kill the grass. Spread the soil around the grass with the rake to spread it evenly over the grass.

    • 3). Load the seed spreader with your Scotts lawn seeds. The Scotts lawn seed you choose depends on your location. Ask the staff at your local garden center for help choosing the right seeds.

    • 4). Spread the seed with your seed spreader. Read the seed bag for any specific instructions.

    • 5). Water your lawn with either sprinklers or a garden hose. Water the lawn daily for seven to 14 days, or until the seedlings are 2-inches tall.
