5 Questions With The Proselyte

5 Questions With... is your chance to get to know a new or up-and-coming metal band. The Proselyte are a Massachusetts band whose latest release is the EP Our Vessel's In Need. Guitarist Nicholas Wolf introduces us to his band.

Give us a brief history of The Proselyte.
The Proselyte formed in Boston, MA in 2006 when a handful of audio nerds met at, of all places, a school for audio engineering. A mutual love of bands like the Melvins and Karp, along with our own unique favorites forged a sound we are all pretty proud of.

Tell us about the recording process for the EP Our Vessel's In Need.
We recorded the EP at New Alliance in Cambridge, MA with our own Alec Rodriguez at the helm. It was during the blizzard of February 2013 and we got absolutely pummeled, leaving us snowed in for a few days. It was scary at first, but slowly evolved into a living entity. It was almost as if the storm had become the fourth member of The Proselyte.

How has your sound progressed/evolved on this one?
This is our first documented material as a trio. Our approach to how we write has obviously changed because of that. You can hear a bit more of the hardcore background that Bradford Macomber and I come from, without taking away from the sound we had already established.

What has been your most memorable Proselyte live show?
We played a great show with Thou and Make in Raleigh a couple years back that has always stuck out. It was our first time having kids screaming our lyrics back to us the entire time, outside of Boston.

Anything else you'd like to mention or promote?
We are hitting the road with The Atlas Moth in October.
