- The median salary for a fertility specialist was $317,943 per year, as of 2009, according to the survey conducted by the American Medical Group Association. The AMGA survey was conducted for nearly every major area of medical specialization and revealed that fertility specialists earned salaries far above the median salary for all physicians reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The bureau indicates that this median salary was $166,400, as of May 2010.
- The AMGA survey also reported the average salaries for fertility specialists by which region of the country they worked. On a regional scale, average salaries ranged from $310,833 per year to $339,250 in 2009. The region of the nation with the lowest reported annual salary was the western U.S. at $310,833 per year, while the highest reported salary was made by those physicians in the northern U.S. at $339,250 annually. In the middle of these two extremes were those in the eastern U.S. who earned $327,329 on average. No salaries were reported for the southern portion of the country.
- A survey of the salaries of reproductive endocrinologists in 10 major U.S. cities by Salary Expert reveals that average salaries ranged from $155,272 to $266,731 per year in 2011. The low end of this salary range was earned by reproductive endocrinologists in Chicago, while the high end of the pay scale was earned by those working in Atlanta. Reproductive endocrinologist salaries in other cities like New York City, Los Angeles and Dallas fell between these two extremes.
- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the rapid job growth in the medical field is expected to occur largely due to the rapidly growing and increasingly older population. Fertility problems faced by both younger and older couples will continue to be treated by reproductive endocrinologists. Because of the increased size of the population, an increase in the incidences of fertility issues may occur.
