4 Effective Ways To Blast Your Clogged Drains

clear drains at home

Housework tasks are often tedious and some of them require herculean efforts. At some point in your life, you'd probably have to deal with a clogged sink. It's a common domestic problem - the usual suspects are food leftovers, hair and God knows what else. Thus water can't find it's way... To where waste water supposed to.

You have two options: either call in somebody who won't destroy your sink (like a pro plumber) or try to tackle the problem on your own. Expert s?rvices are quite cheap these days due to severe competition.

However, if you wish to give your amateur plumber skills a chance to shine, try these four effective ways:

1.  Plunger

There is a reason force cups still exist- they work, though they may look a little bit primitive. Here's how you cope with the yucky mass. Place the plumbing "weapon" directly on the drain. Press as hard as you can in order to produce vacuum. Repeat the same motion a few times. Thus the filthy "bundle" which obstructs the precious pipes will move and eventually go where its supposed to.

2. Plain Wire

This solution to the problem is very effective only if you try to reach a certain area which is not that deep down the drain. After all it's just wire, not a miracle maker. To make it more interesting imagine yourself as a sapper who disarms a bomb. The good news here is it hopefully won't blow in your face. Make sure the wire is solid so it doesn't twist ,twirl or hook where it's shouldn't or the problems will be +1. Cut a 15-20 cm piece and twist the tip so it looks like a hook but be careful not to hurt yourself. If the tip is too wide it won't pass down the drain. When you put the improvised tool down the drain you will feel resistance. Don't worry, it won't kick back or bite the wire... Unless it has evolved into a baby alien. However, this would be the place where the rubbish is stuck. Now, my ambitious plumber, move the wire up and down several times. Thus you'll tear the pile into smaller pieces so it can flow down the drain easier and leave a clear pipe.

3. Hose

Don't worry, you won't tackle a fire fighter's hose. Meet the cousin of an IV hose line! He's the perfect candidate for the job as he's flexible and think enough to slip through and reach the problem area. Make sure its opening is wide enough to fit the faucet. Put it deeper into the drain and "fire" a strong spout of water which is powerful enough to push the drain "villain" away and release the sewer.

4.  Home Chemistry Lab

Baking soda and vinegar are the usual participants in a miraculous home-made solution. The proficiency results they produce can often compare to those from store-bought cleaners. The other two advantages are the solution is eco friendly and cheap so you don't have to shake you backyard money tree to buy the ingredients. This mixture will help you blast tougher problems away like the nasty intruder who lives down the drain. Now follow the five simple steps to the creation of the cleaning potion:
  • Pour a jar of hot water down the drain.
  • Add ½ a cup of baking soda and leave it for a minute or two.
  • Mix vinegar and hot water in a cup and pour it on top of the baking soda pile.
  • Cover the place with a drain plug so it won't boil over (or the fumes it produces don't "punch" you in the face) and to keep the reaction down the drain.
  • After that release a strong spout of boiling water to clear away what's left .

One factor you probably didn't consider is the period of time the drain has been clogged. If you've waited ages to clear the pipes, the problem is now impossible to deal with. The daily use of the sink and bathroom helps grime ball grow and eventually obstruct the water path. Respectively, your little clogger is now the size of your fist and won't go away easily. In this case contact reliable expert plumbers so you won't have to use extremely toxic drain cleansers or cause home apocalypse. These specially trained professionals will deal with the complication and provide flawless results in no time at a reasonable price.
