- 1). Ask your home improvement store to cut eight pieces of 1/4-inch plywood 18 inches square. Most home improvement stores will cut down plywood at no charge or for a small fee.
- 2). Place quilt batting on the work surface. Spray one side of the plywood with spray adhesive and then center the plywood on the batting with the glue side toward the batting. Trim the batting to 2 inches beyond the wood on all sides. Fold the batting to the back. With a staple gun, staple it to the backside of the plywood, with staples every inch. Ease your corners. Repeat for all the boards.
- 3). Place faux leather on the work table face side down. Center the batting-covered plywood batting side down over the leather. Trim the faux leather to 3 inches wider than the plywood on all sides. Pull the center of the top of the leather to the back and staple. Pull the center of the bottom up, stretching slightly and staple. Pull the center of each side and staple. Continue stretching and stapling from top, bottom, side, side working from the center out until you near the corners. Fold the corners neatly. Staple every inch. Repeat with all the panels.
- 4). Cut two pieces of 1 by 2-inch board to 5 feet. Cut four pieces of 1 by 2-inch board to 18 inches, using a saw. Place the leather squares face side down in two rows of four each. Center one 5-foot board across the top four and the second across the bottom four. Place your 18-inch pieces between the top and bottom boards vertically, one for each pair of squares. Screw the boards to the back of the plywood making sure your screws are short enough that they will not screw through the front of the plywood. Space two screws on each square panel for each board.
- 5). Attach down-facing flush-mount cleats to the top board at each end. Position your headboard on the wall where you want to install it and mark the location and height of your cleats. Attach upward-facing flush-mount cleats to the wall using wall anchors if you don't screw into studs. Slide the headboard cleats together.
