The United States Marine Corps and several other military branches have decided to restrict their personnel's use of personal social networks.
It makes sense because loose lips sink ships; and because our enemies, or even spies from other country will use these social networks to befriend someone, engage them in conversation, and try to get information.
The United States military is on to this tactic, and therefore it is very careful about the dissemination of information, and allowing their personnel to accidentally divulge information.
Should the United States Marine Corps allow the use of social networks? No, but perhaps, it might use them another; such as only for misdirection and deception, and it might make sense to follow them quite closely.
Even use them for gathering intelligence, or listening to chatter.
The risk is far too great, and lives will be lost if military personnel get online and start talking about anything to do with their operations.
Additionally, if a certain person in a certain branch of the military all of the suddenly stops using the social network after using it every day for a long period of time, the enemy might assume that their unit is getting ready to do something.
This could give away information, by not giving away information.
Perhaps you can see the problem.
In fact, it could alert the enemy that our team is on the way, and thus, the element of surprise is lost and with it some of our own lives.
Although there were many people very upset with the new rule to not allow the USMC to use social online media, it makes perfect sense and it is a most prudent decision.
Please consider all this.
