Pseudogout is clinically similar to gout, except that the attacks of arthritis are caused by deposits of calcium pyrophosphate crystals into the joints/tissues (Berkow, et al., 1997). Thus, this disease is often called calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPDD) (Wikipedia, 2008).
