- A sand volleyball court is 60 feet long and 30 feet wide. A net is stretched across the center of the court to divide it in half. The Association of Volleyball Professionals oversees professional sand volleyball matches in the United States.
- Courts should have 10 feet of additional space in every direction. No obstructions should be present anywhere directly above the playing area.
- The court's playing surface should be made of a good-quality sand at least 3 feet deep to prevent any contact with the ground beneath. It should be raked clean of rock and other debris before play and made as smooth as possible.
- Bright rope or tape should be used to mark off the playing boundaries of the court. Nylon tape is recommended to prevent scrapes or rope burns. The tape or rope should be removed when the court is not in use.
- Poles holding the net should be made of galvanized metal or treated wood and sunk at least 3 feet into the ground for stability. A cushioned pad should be attached around each pole in case of contact.
