1. Please tell us a little bit about Global Vision International (GVI) and how it originated?

Global Vision International (GVI) was formed in 1998 to provide support and services to international charities, non-profits and governmental agencies, through volunteering opportunities, internship programs, training and direct funding.

GVI now runs responsible volunteering programs in over 40 countries around the world and offers interns the chance to personally contribute to important conservation initiatives and community projects.

2. What sets Global Vision International (GVI) apart from similar internship programs?

GVI staff have all volunteered, traveled or interned themselves and offer unparalleled in-the-field support through the GVI network of regional offices. Specialist assistance begins with a suitable program selection and is followed by site training, formal qualifications, additional work placements, final evaluation, summary of training and a confidential professional reference.

3. What types of internships are available through Global Vision International (GVI)?

GVI offer internships in conservation, international development, environmental, eco-tourism, education and marine conservation. Internship placements are available worldwide including South Africa, Guatemala, Mexico, India, Thailand, Laos, Ecuador and Kenya.

Long term internships can include a work placement, for example at dive shops, safari lodges, environmental research programs, schools in developing countries or community development programs.



An online application is required, this is then followed up with a phone call from a GVI staff member to establish suitability. Applications are generally reviewed and assessed inside of two working days and applicants are informed of the results via phone or email. All applications are considered on merit.

5. How easy is it for a student to get accepted for a Global Vision International (GVI) internship?

Applicants need to illustrate their interest in volunteering, their reasons for applying to the program and what they hope to gain from the internship. As long as they are medically fit and there is an appropriate opportunity available then students should get a positive response from their coordinator after the phone conservation.

6. Is it possible for 2 students to sign up together and get an internship placement in the same city?

It certainly is possible for two students to sign up together. Providing there is program availability and both candidates are suitable and enthusiastic two people can request a placement in the same city. Both candidates should complete an online application and make a note of their request in the “Do you have any questions or concerns about the program you hope to join” area of the form.

7. With many internship programs such as Global Vision International's (GVI) there are costs involved for student participants. Does Global Vision International (GVI) curtail any of these costs with stipends, scholarships or awards?

GVI does offer some student scholarships and details can be found on the website. The opportunities are updated every few months, so please keep checking!
