- In an electric stove, the heating elements can become worn out or damaged over time. These are easy to replace in most instances. Otherwise, the wiring may have to be repaired. If a gas stove won't light, check for the presence of the pilot light. A call to the gas company also may be in order.
- The thermostat may be faulty in an electric stove and may need to be replaced. A gas stove can be getting an improper ratio of gas to air, requiring an adjustment.
- Door springs may become damaged or worn out, complicating or even preventing the door from remaining closed. The hinges can also become old and worn. Both can be replaced, either at home or with repair services.
