How To Fix A Leaky Faucet

A leaky faucet causes a lot of inconvenience to a lot of people. It can also be a source of financial problems due to water waste. Water leaks can add up and you must not ignore this problem. It is imperative that you be able to stop the issue as early as possible, to minimize the impact it can cause on your finance.

Leaky fauctes are usually caused by two things. It is possible that there is a loose connection on the base of the handle which might need replacement or repair. You have the option of doing the repairs yourself, or getting the assistance of a professional plumber. If you prefer a do-it-yourself process, then follow these specific steps on how to fix a leaky faucet. This comes from our experience doing repairs for our plumbing Escondido service.

If there is a slow leak coming out from the faucet, the only solution is to simply replace the washer. First, turn off the main valve which is mostly found in your basement or utility room. Then, uninstall the faucet by using a screw driver to unscrew the cap. Afterwards, just loosen the screw and pull the handle out of the stem of the faucet. Pull out the packing nut with the use of an adjustable wrench or a pair of pliers. You simply have to twist out the stem as if you are just turning on the water. At the very bottom of the stem, the old washer is located which you have to replace.

To replace the old washer, install the new washer into the stem. You then have to replace the stem, and then put the packing nut back. Afterwards, place the handle into the faucet back to its proper place. You can say that the work is finished when you have placed the handle and decorative cap back to its place.

If you think the problem was caused by a loose connection, simply tighten the nut located right below the handle. It is a very simple fix. And after all that, you have to make sure that the faucet isn't leaking anymore.

Those are simple steps to fix a leaky faucet. If your repair is not successful, you need to call your plumber to solve this problem. We can help at plumbers Rancho Bernardo.
