- 1). Install Backup Exec to the virtual server you want to back up. Insert the CD and follow the installation prompts on the screen. Skip the "Easy Backup" option during installation. Refer to the Quick Installation Guide provided with the software for additional instructions.
- 2). Run the Backup Exec program by clicking "Start" > "Program Files" > "Symantec" > "Backup Exec System Recovery." The program will present the "Home" page.
- 3). Click "Run or Manage Backups." Click "Define New." Since you have not yet defined a backup, the "Easy Setup" dialog box is presented. If you want to perform a regular backup with the default options and schedule, follow the Easy Setup wizard and your backup will begin. Otherwise, click "Cancel" to specify each option individually.
- 1). Click "Back up my computer" and "Next." Select the disk drive you want to back up, or hold down the "Ctrl" key while you click to select more than one drive. Select "Define a new backup" and click "Next."
- 2). Select "Recovery point set" to back up only the files that changed since the last backup, and click "Next." Click "Browse..." and locate the drive and folder where you want to store the backup. If you want a different file name from the default, click "Rename" and type in a new file name. Click "Next" to continue.
- 3). Select a compression level, for example "Standard." Review and select the other options if you want them enabled. The options allow you to verify the backup file when the backup is complete, specify a limit to the the number of recovery point sets saved for this backup, index the file names, make them available to a search engine such as Google Desktop, and include system and temporary files. Enter an optional description for the recovery point if you wish. If you want to set a password, click "Advanced," type the password twice, and click "OK" to continue. Click "Next" to advance from the options screen.
- 4). Click "Schedule" to run the backup automatically. Enter the starting time for the backup and choose the days of the week it should run. Click "Start a new recovery point set" and select the frequency of the recovery point. Click "OK" and "Next."
- 5). If you want the backup to run immediately, click "Run backup now." Otherwise, the first backup will run according to the schedule you specified.
