When you wish to manifest a higher consciousness through meditation, you are activating your spiritual aspirations. You are aligning yourself with all of those ideas, persons, situations and experiences that you are trying to attract. You are raising the vibrational level of your consciousness so that you are a match for that which you seek.
Many people have tried to meditate but many give up before they experience results. Remember why you want to manifest a higher consciousness when you are tempted to quit your meditation practice. Like any other muscle, your meditation muscle must be exercised regularly. When you aspire with sincerity and dedication, you can go beyond where you are today and become tomorrow what you seek - your highest self.
Follow the suggestions below to help set your inner stage to foster a meditative energy. You will need to develop the discipline of meditation in order to raise and manifest your higher consciousness.
Set your intention each morning to spend time in silence that day. Write down your intention.
Choose a place. Regularly spend your time of silence in the same place, an area or room that is clean, neat, inspiring and above all, private and quiet. You may enjoy flowers, a candle, an art object or a special chair to sit in. Personalize your space to make it beautiful and uniquely yours.
Choose a time. Be specific. 6:00 a.m. is more fruitful than when I first get up in the morning. 1:00 p.m. has more clarity than sometime during my lunch hour.
Begin. Immediately after showering, in the morning and/or evening, is an excellent time for being still. Sit where you are most comfortable, in a chair or cross-legged on the floor. Keep your spine erect.
-Choose a focal point: your breath, a candle flame, flower, art object
-Breathe slowly and deeply 3-5 times to relax the body/mind
-Focus gently on an object, eyes half open
-Release all identification with your thoughts;
place your ego-mind on your shoulder
-Relax into a peaceful, thought-free silence for 5 to 10 minutes
Continue to develop one-pointed concentration by focusing all of your energies more intensely on one subject or object. It is like having a divine warrior inside you.
Experiment. Focus on one special word - peace, joy, creativity, expansion, love, abundance. Repeat your word, silently or aloud.
Read spiritual books. For inspiration, associate with people who have been meditating for some time.
Pray and/or Meditate. Now would be an auspicious time to soulfully pray and begin to meditate. Do this in your own way or get further instruction.
In the beginning, spend more time on concentration. Feel that your power of concentration is coming from your heart centre which is where your soul is located. Your concentration will then be surcharged with the soul's light. When the light of the soul illumines the mind, no negative forces can enter into the mind.
During your periods of concentration, you may find that you can meditate for a short time without mind movement. Continue with no expectation. Just as you do not see immediate muscle development when you first start to lift weights, it takes time to develop your meditation muscle.
If you feel that you are satisfied with what you have and what you are, then there is no need for you to enter into the practice of meditation. The reason we enter into meditation is because we have an inner hunger. We feel that within us there is something luminous, vast and divine. We feel that we need this thing very badly, only right now we do not have access to it. Our inner hunger comes from our spiritual need.
Meditation is a dynamic, active power; it is movement. Movement itself is progress and increases the richness of our reality. Through concentration and with discipline you will have fruitful meditations that can bring you peace, light, love and happiness. As you open to the plenitude of the Universe, you will find that you are manifesting a higher consciousness through your meditation.
