How to Decorate a Home Corner Desk Space

    • 1). Paint the two connecting walls of the corner. This establishes this space as separate in function from the rest of the room. A coat of light-colored paint such as yellow or light blue lightens the space.

    • 2). Make sure you have enough electrical power to operate your computer, fax and other office equipment. A power strip extends the outlet and protects against an electrical power surge.

    • 3). Make sure the space has ample light. Incorporate a few kinds of lighting to get the best coverage. In addition to the overhead light, place a desk lamp on the desk or a floor lamp right next to the desk to give yourself more focused, intense light. Corners tend to absorb light, so when in doubt, add more light fixtures.

    • 4). Personalize the area with artwork and photos. Create a focal point on the wall by choosing one large piece and flanking it on the sides with two or three smaller photos or pieces of art. Choose art that fits the room's decor to make the office area blend in with the room. Hang the art above your desk area.

    • 5). Buy a corner desk for the most efficient use of the space. Look for a piece that fits the decorating style of the room. A desk without many decorative features such as moulding works better in a modern room, whereas a wooden desk with a carved design works better in a traditional room such as the library.

    • 6). Purchase a comfortable chair. You'll be sitting in it for long periods of time throughout the day. Look for one that allows you to adjust the chair so your feet touch the floor. Make sure it supports your back and arms. Choose one that also looks well with your corner desk.

    • 7). Place shelves on each side of the desk. Fill the shelves with items that are necessary for your work such as storage containers for old files, foldable file folders, boxes of pens and extra paper. Look for containers that are functional as well as look decorative. A set of twig baskets or stationery storage boxes reinforce the decorative element in the room while still being functional.
