Various Aspects of Process Controls

Process control is a device that is used for mass production of continuous processes such as oil refining, paper manufacturing, truck refueling etc. It is mostly used in industrial purposes. Sometimes the process control is connected with a remote control device so that a small staff of operating personnel can operate a complex process from a central process controlling room. For instance we can mention the name of programmable logic controller or PLC. It is used to read a set of digital and analog inputs, apply a set of logic statements, and generate a set of analog and digital outputs.

Sometimes the industrial process control is controlled by a powerful transmitter that converts sensor measured units into an electrical signal and after that it directs the data via a cable or even wirelessly and it is received by a display or the control device within the system. One can place this central hub anywhere even outside the premises also.

Generally a Process Control System can be characterized as the following forms:

1. As a Discrete: It is found in most of the manufacturing, motion or packaging applications. Some robotic assembly that is found in automotive production can be sometime characterized as discrete process control. This device manufacturing involves the production of discrete pieces of product, such as metal stamping.

2. As a Batch Form: There are some industrial application that requires some specific amount of raw materials such as adhesives and glues. It is normally used in mixing raw materials in a heated vessel. A batch processes are generally used so that one can produce a relatively low to intermediate quantity of product in yearly basis.

3. Continuous processes: In contrast to the Batch processes a continuous processes is used to produce very large quantities of product per year. In this system only a few physical system is represented through smooth variables.

Statistical process control:

 Statistical process control is an effective method through which one can monitor a process by using the control charts. It has a great ability to inspect both the current center of a process and the process's variation about that center. The early detection and the prevention of problems is also emphasized by it.

However, statistical process control or SPC is not a mere control chart or capability index. It is actually a vast system that uses processed data to describe a prototypical manufacturing process. These devices can also be controlled by wireless controls. It has been around there for a long time. However, it is only during the last few years that the industrial companies have begun working with powerful processed control devices more actively.

The most useful statistical process technique for small manufacturers is range control chart. It is commonly known as X-Bar R chart. It is a simple way of looking at the process of any industrial machines. You can use it for getting a quick view of all the essential needs about the control process, from the precision of metal parts to making pizzas. If you use this control method you will be able to achieve a consistency in your work.
