Propertius

(Sextus) Propertius was a Roman elegiac poet from Umbria. He was considered the most refined and elegant of the elegists by the Romans. In his love poetry, his mistress is Cynthia, whose slave he claims to be.

Propertius was probably born about 50 B.C. His family's property suffered during Augustus' confiscations in the late 40s, but he was a member of Maecenas' circle.
