- 1). Obtain a position working with animals while you're still in high school, or start a dog walking or pet sitting business to gain experience. If you can't find a paying position, get an internship or volunteer. The Georgia Wildlife Federation offers information on internships and volunteer positions available throughout Georgia.
- 2). Complete high school or your GED certificate. Georgia offers a Veterinary Science Career Pathway at high schools throughout the state.
- 3). Submit resumes and file applications at veterinarian offices or animal hospitals. According to the Georgia Veterinary Technician and Assistant Association website, many veterinary assistants receive their training from a veterinarian or veterinary technician on the job. The GVTAA lists job openings on its website.
