- 1). Type your summary, or literature review, on 8.5-by-11-inch paper, using one-inch margins on all sides. Double-space text for the entire report.
- 2). Use Times New Roman or a similar type style and a font size of 10 to 12 points.
- 3). Include a header at the top of every page of your summary. Insert the page numbers up against the right margin. Type "THE TITLE OF YOUR PAPER," without the quotes or comma, flush to the left margin.
- 4). Begin your literature review with a title page. Your title page's header differs slightly from the remainder of your paper. Precede your paper's title with the words, "Running head:," again minus the quotation marks and comma.
- 5). Center your title, in upper and lowercase letters, in the top third of the title page. As the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) points out, APA style prefers titles of no more than 12 words. Avoid abbreviations and pointless words. Use no more than two lines for your title.
- 6). List your name, in first name, middle initial, last name order, underneath the title of your paper. Under your name, include your institutional affiliation (for instance, the name of the university you are attending).
- 7). Write an abstract on a new page, if requested by your instructor. Your abstract summarizes the key points of your paper in no more than 150 to 250 words. Center the word "Abstract" at the top of the page. Do not use special formatting, such as quotation marks, bold type or italics.
- 8). Follow the main body of your paper with an APA Style reference list. Throughout your paper, APA Style requires you to use in-text citations to identify information you are quoting or paraphrasing from one of your references. Each reference list entry corresponds to an in-text citation.
