The Average Height of a Terrestrial Microwave Tower

    Function

    • Terrestrial microwave towers are part of a vast network of structures that provide both wireless and fixed communication to users across the globe. These land-based towers work with satellites to relay digital communication signals.

    Features

    • The function of the tower is to elevate microwave transmitters to sufficient height to where signals can be relayed without obstruction. Microwaves require a line-of-sight path to relay their signals. Microwave towers provide this height; however, regulations require them to remain under certain heights.

    Height

    • If a tower is within 100 feet of trees, a microwave tower must be 30 feet or less than the average height of the trees. If the tower is in a place without trees, then the tower cannot exceed 60 feet. The maximum height for a microwave tower is 110 feet.
