- Chevrolet was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, William Little and Edwin Campbell. General Motors purchased the operating assets of Chevrolet in 1918. In 1990, three cars were representative of the Chevrolet lineup: the Camaro, the S-10 and the Suburban. A five-speed manual overdrive transmission was standard, while a four-speed automatic overdrive was an optional feature. The Camaro's fuel tank could hold up to 15.5 gallons of gasoline. - The 1990 Suburban came with four engine options. The 5.7-liter V8 with 210 horsepower was standard on the R1500 and V1500. The 5.7-liter V8 with 190 horsepower was standard on the R2500 and the V2500. The 6.2-liter V8 with 145 horsepower was standard on the R1500 and V1500 diesel models. The 6.2-liter engine with 155 horsepower was standard on the R2500 and V2500 diesel trims. A four-speed manual transmission was available for this vehicle, along with three- and four-speed automatic transmissions. The four-wheel drive trims, using the 6.2-liter engine, got 16 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway. The 5.7-engine got 12 miles per gallon and 16 on the highway. The rear-wheel trims, using the 6.2-liter engine, got 16 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. The 5.7-liter got 13 miles per gallon in the city and 19 miles per gallon on the highway.
- The S-10 came with two engine options. The 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 94 horsepower was the standard option for all two-wheel drive trims.The 4.3-liter V6 with 160 horsepower was standard on all four-wheel trims. A five-speed manual or four-speed overdrive transmission was available for this vehicle. The four-wheel drive trims got 17 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway. The rear-wheel drive, using the four-speed automatic transmission, obtained 21 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on the highway. The five-speed got an additional two miles per gallon in the city.
