How to Pack Fragile Stemware

    • 1). Locate heavy, sturdy boxes. Ensure that there is a top or flaps that can be closed and taped shut. Check the bottom of the box for any damage or signs of weakness, such as tears. Reinforce the bottom of the box with a strip of packing tape along the seam.

    • 2). Fill the bottom of the box with foam peanuts. Add enough peanuts to make a cushion of two to three inches. Place cell dividers on top of the layer.

    • 3). Crumple up two sheets of tissue paper and stuff the insides of the globe of a glass. Fold a single tissue in half and wrap it around the stem. Repeat until all of the stemware are prepared.

    • 4). Lay out two to three sheets of tissue paper and place it on your work surface. Take one of the prepared glasses and place it on its side on the edge of the tissues. Roll the stemware in the tissue towards the opposite side. Carefully tuck the excess tissue around the rim.

    • 5). Place two to three sheets of packing or newspaper on your work surface. Roll the tissue-wrapped glass in the paper in the same fashion.

    • 6). Turn the glass upside down so that the globe is facing downward and the base is facing the top of the box. Place it inside of one of the cells in the box.

    • 7). Continue wrapping the remaining stemware with tissue and packing paper. When all of the cells are full, place a layer of crumpled packing paper over the top for cushioning. Place a square of cardboard over the crumpled paper.

    • 8). Place another layer of cells on top of the cardboard and continue packing your wrapped stemware until finished or until the box will hold no more layers of cells.

    • 9). Fill the remaining space at the top of the box with peanuts or crushed packing paper.

    • 10

Seal the top of the box securely closed with packing tape. Use the black marker to write "This End Up" on the sides of the box; include arrow marks pointing toward the top. Write "Fragile" in several locations on the sides and the top of the box.
