- 1). Cut each gourd in half using a hand saw. Pull out the guts of the gourds using a spoon. Throw these guts away. Set your gourds somewhere safe and let them dry out for a day. After one day, sand the edges of the gourds.
- 2). Drill a hole in the top of each gourd. Make sure each hole is the same width. Slide a leather strap through each hole to make sure it is wide enough for your leather strap.
- 3). Paint each gourd and your piece of wood using paint brushes and paint.
- 4). Thread a leather strap through each gourd. Tie a knot in the strap on the inside of the gourd to hold it in place. Drill holes through your four by four piece of wood and tie a knot in the end to hold the leather straps in place. Your gourds should hang close enough to bump into each other in the wind.
- 5). Drill holes in each corner of your piece of wood, thread a leather strap through the hole and knot it to hold it in place. Make sure each leather strap is the same length. Tie the leather straps to your metal "O" ring to distribute the weight equally. Tie one leather strap to the top of the "O" ring and hang your wind chime from this strap.
