- 1). Complete your high school diploma or GED.
- 2). Enroll in a plumbing program at a local trade school. Some community colleges also offer certification programs for training plumbers.
- 3). Do an Internet search to find your local Pennsylvania plumbers union. Submit an application for an apprenticeship to that union. You can also check local contractors for apprenticeship opportunities. The apprenticeship lasts between four and five years, and includes classroom training as well as on-the-job experience.
- 4). Complete your apprenticeship. At this point, you can find a job as a plumber. Pennsylvania does not require a license.
