Conception Symptoms

There are many early conception symptoms, many of which can be mistakenly attributed to other causes or which are very subtle and can be hard to detect. However, if you notice more than three or four of these symptoms at once, it is likely that you are pregnant.

Here are the main conception symptoms in order that they occur.

1. Temperature Drop
If you monitor your body basal temperature, the very first sign of conception you may notice is a dip in the body basal temperature. This occurs the very day when implantation takes place.

2. Implantation Bleeding
Eight to ten days after conception occurs, the fertilised egg begins to attach itself to the lining of the uterus. This can result in some very light bleeding or spotting that can be almost imperceptible.

3. Implantation Cramps
Another effect of the foetus attaching itself to the uterine wall is that you will experience some abdominal cramps similar to those many women experience during their menstrual cycles.

4. Positive Blood hCG Pregnancy Test
Once the implanted embryo has released enough hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) into the blood stream, then it is possible to ascertain whether or not you are pregnant with a blood test. This usually occurs about the tenth day after conception.

5. Positive Urine Home Pregnancy Test
About the fourteenth day after conception, a home pregnancy test kit will give a positive result if you are pregnant. Taking the test any time before that may return a negative result as the hCGs will not have reached the urine in sufficient quantities to show up yet.

6. A Skipped Period
When a woman conceives, the cervix seals shut for the length of the pregnancy. Thus, a missed period is one of the more obvious and looked for symptoms of conception. A womans period usually begins fourteen to sixteen days after ovulation.

7. Nausea
Morning sickness, which occurs throughout the day and not just in the mornings, is one of the signs of pregnancy that can be noticed by others around you. The nausea generally begins between two weeks and a month after conception occurs.

8. Breast Tenderness
You may begin to notice your breasts or nipples feeling more tender than usual within three to four weeks after conception. A few weeks later, you may also notice a darkening of the areola around the nipples.
