The professional association for radiologists in the United States is the American Society of Radiologic Technicians (ARST). Among the elected officials is the society's vice president. The vice president has a variety of duties to fulfill, which include acting as a member of the board of directors. - The vice president of the ASRT is elected to a term of no more than one year. Organizational bylaws state that the term of a vice president ends after the succeeding vice president has been duly elected. Nominations for the office must be placed prior to the first business day of November before 4:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. Elections take place in February and March.
- Sometimes presidents in the American Society of Radiologic Technicians cannot fulfill their duties, and as a result must resign. In the event that the office of president has become vacant for any reason, the vice president assumes the office of president. In turn, the board of directors will fill the vacancy in the office of vice president.
- The vice president of the ASRT is a member of the association's board of directors. Duties in this capacity include the appointment of representatives for the organization. The body also places local chapters and other affiliates on probation when they have violated organizational norms, and reinstates these entities when they have meet the requirements for reinstatement set down by the bylaws, charter and house of delegates. The board of directors of the ASRT is required to meet at least once a year at the same time as the house of delegates.
The board is also responsible for proposing a dues schedule; however, the board does not unilaterally adopt dues schedules. All proposals for dues must be put to a vote before the house of delegates and passed by a two-thirds majority. - Vice presidents must meet both general qualifications to be an officer and specific qualifications to be vice president. Officers must be radiologic technology professionals and voting members of the ASRT, one of its affiliates or the United States military. A vice president must also must have no less than two years prior service as a delegate can't currently be on any other comparable board or in the ASRT's house of delegates. Finally, vice presidents must be voting members for at least five years and have prior service on the board of directors.
