Tips For Cleaning Yoga Mats

Cleaning yoga mats isn't too difficult to do and it doesn't even require a degree.
Just because yoga involves being in a variety of special positions and using techniques doesn't mean maintaining equipment for this exercise like the mat has special instructions too or requires any special cleaning.
Like any other equipment, these mats come with usage and maintenance instructions, which you'll need to carefully read before purchasing one.
You can choose to buy a high-end, dry-clean only version or a simple mat that's machine washable.
If you decide to take a yoga class, a floor covering is something you'll need to have in order to safely perform the different yoga positions.
Since floor coverings have direct contact with the floor, they can get dusty and dirty, especially if your yoga classes are held outdoors.
This is why it's important that you know all about cleaning these floor coverings.
You can clean your yoga mat by using soap and water, and then hanging it in the sun to dry, or you can take it to the dry cleaner.
The type of cleaning you need to give your yoga floor covering depends on the type of covering you have.
What kind of material is your floor covering made of? This will determine what cleaning method you should use to make sure you get the most use out of your mat.
Most yoga mats are made of thick cotton that has a non-slip backing.
If you have a cotton floor covering, you can clean it easily yourself.
Simply put it in the washing machine or wash it by hand.
Whichever you go with is fine since the care instructions for these yoga mats usually indicate that the mats are okay to be machine washed or washed manually.
When you are cleaning floor coverings, make sure you remember this one important rule: never squeeze dry your covering in the washing machine.
Floor coverings for this exercise are also made of rubber.
If you have a rubber covering, cleaning it is very easy.
You simply wash it just how you would wash car mats.
Wash it with water and soap, and scrub on it well with a brush.
You'll have a clean yoga mat in no time.
Keep in mind that yoga mats do wear out after so many uses and cleaning.
So if cleaning yoga mats isn't possible anymore, don't hesitate to throw your old yoga mat and replace it with a new one.
