- 1). Watch your child for a lack of coordination, poor balance and slowed reaction times. THC reduces the function of the nervous system, resulting in these physiological effects. These effects typically last for three to four hours after using THC.
- 2). Note when your child seems to be particularly hungry. The "munchies" is very common among those who use THC recreationally. If your child exhibits unexplainable hunger at unusual times, he may be using THC.
- 3). Look for physical characteristics that are typical of THC use, as well as other drug use. Some of these physical characteristics include red eyes, dry mouth and periodic coughing.
- 4). Scrutinize your child's grades. If he was a good student and suddenly experiences a slip in his grades without any obvious reason, such as a break up or move, he may be using THC. This drug makes it difficult to concentrate and causes apathy.
- 5). Identify a pattern in behavior. Since the effects of THC typically last three to four hours, your child will have periods during which her behavior is abnormal. THC can make a person paranoid and give her unusual thoughts. If her behavior is irregular for a couple hours after she returns from hanging out with her friends, THC may be the culprit.
