The mean yearly compensation in the state in 2010 was $47,060, with an hourly rate of $22.62. California had the highest mean yearly rate of $67,970, while Connecticut had the lowest at $64,530. Mississippi was slightly higher than Tennessee, offering a mean yearly pay of $49,910 in 2010.
- Those employed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, earned a mean yearly pay of $59,620, with an hourly rate of $24.33 in 2010. Memphis paid a mean yearly rate of $47,990 and $23.07 per hour, while Clarksville, Tennessee, offered a mean annual wage of $44,130 and $21.22 an hour. Jackson paid a mean yearly salary of $36,340 and an hourly rate of $17.47 in 2010.
- Respiratory therapists in south central Tennessee earned a mean yearly rate of $48,940 and $23.53 per hour. The eastern portion paid a yearly compensation of $46,120 and $22.18 per hour, while those working in the north central portion of the state were paid a mean yearly rate of $45,470 and $21.86 per hour. The western Tennessee nonmetropolitan area paid a mean yearly rate of $42,180 and 20.28 per hour.
- The mean national annual wage was $55,200 and $26.54 per hour in 2010. The 90th percentile of these workers earned at or above $73,410 per year, while those in the 50th percentile earned at or below $54,280. Those in the 10th percentile earned at or below $39,990 annually in 2010. A 21 percent increase in the number of available sleep assistant positions is expected by 2018.
