- The basis for creating the cake is the religion or spiritual field of the individual whom the cake is baked for. Whether it's one of the three main monotheistic religions practiced throughout the world or another, smaller spiritual realm, such as Wicca, the spirituality of the recipient determines the overall route the cake takes for completion.
- Every religion or spirituality is filled with symbols, from the importance of trees and nature in Wicca to the crescent for followers of Islam. Use this symbol as the main decoration for the outside of the cake. Create it out of fondant on a small scale and use it on the top of the cake, or create the cake in that shape itself, carving it into a cross for Christianity or a menorah for Judaism.
- Ingredients are not only an important part of cake, they can also have significance in certain religions or to persons of faith. Determine that the individual you're making the cake for is amenable to consuming items taken from an animal, such as eggs and butter, before you begin. Also determine which color or ingredient is considered lucky or revered within their spirituality or religion.
- There are a variety of decorations for spiritual cakes, both inside and out. Shapes can be created from fondant, such as a Star of David or an Ichthys (Christian fish symbol). Others also believe that what is within the cake can bring positive energy -- from the color of the cake itself to small extras, such as coins, baked into the cake. Determine the size of the cake you need, whether it is for a large gathering or a small, intimate one. The size also determines how you decorate the cake or what extras you add.
