- Surprise your church's moms and daughters with a creative fashion show. Instead of modeling the latest fashion or back-to-school clothes, let the moms design a Bible-based outfit for the girls, or let the girls do the same for their moms. Give the designers an assortment of men's clothing, odds and ends from a craft box or other fun "inspirational" pieces. The only rule is the fashion design must be the latest "thing" going in the days of Moses, David, Ruth or some other person from the Bible. You may also have the model pose as the character and speak of his or her exploits.
- Set up a spa in your church's great hall or other open room. Invite the moms and daughters for a relaxing day away, where everyone is pampered from head to toe. Provide a foot bath with salts, facial masks and a variety of lipsticks and other makeup. Offer several hair style magazines for participants to look through, and let daughters style their moms' hair. Serve a luncheon of cucumber sandwiches or other finger foods, lemonade or ice tea. As the guests enjoy the day, teach a lesson of caring for the body as the temple of God.
- A cook-off gets everyone in the church involved. Sign up the mothers and daughters to compete in a cooking competition. You can be specific about the menu, such as a chili cook-off, or allow the contestants to select the type of food item, such as appetizer, dessert or entree. Choose several members of the congregation to judge the entries, and invite everyone else to sample the food at a church social. Encourage the mother-daughter teams to share the recipe for their entry on recipe cards.
- Encourage all the mothers and daughters of your congregation to gather all those old photographs tucked under beds and in closets. Buy picture frames from a thrift store or discount craft store, and give participants a supply of glue, scissors, paint and other craft findings. For big frames, use the photographs to create a scrapbook page or a collage. Select a few meaningful Bible verses about parenting or bonds of love that would compliment the pictures. Invite participants to decoupage these verses onto the frames, then finish decorating them with other crafty elements like ribbons, buttons, and bows.
