- 1). Measure the length and width of the area where you will be installing the plywood with a tape measure and record the measurement. Multiply the two together to get the total square footage of the area. One sheet of plywood is 4-by-8 feet or 32 square feet. Divide the number by 32 to get the number of sheets needed for installation.
- 2). Measure the thickness of the surface underneath, and determine what size screws will be needed. The screw must go into the surface underneath at least halfway without coming out the bottom and sticking out. Factor in the thickness of the plywood also.
- 3). Line up the first sheet of nominal plywood on the surface and butt it up against the wall or edge. Attach a screw to a power drill and press the screw firmly against the plywood beginning in any corner. Screw it into place with the power drill until the head of the screw is flush with the plywood.
- 4). Move around the plywood and insert a screw every 8 inches throughout the entire piece until it is secure in place to the surface underneath. Line the second piece up to the first and leave a gap of 1/8 inch to allow for expansion of the plywood and eliminate warping when the board swells up.
- 5). Install the second piece just like the first was installed and continue around the room in the same manner until all of the plywood is installed in the proper location.
