- 1). Install a faker board by cutting a 2-inch strip of HardiePlank and fitting it along the edge of the trim board at the bottom of the house. Nail this to the side of the home with a nail gun. Use one nail every 16 inches, trying to nail in each stud.
- 2). Install the first row of HardiePlank on the home. Place the plank so the bottom edge is flush with the trim board. Once the plank is lined up flush on both sides, nail it to the wall of the home with the nail gun. Use one nail every 16 inches, trying to nail in each stud, and place the nail about 1 inch down from the top of the plank. The next plank will cover up the nail.
- 3). Continue to install planks, placing the next one adjacent to the first. Nail it to the building in the same way. When you reach the end of the home, mark the edge with a pencil and use a circular saw to cut the plank to fit flush with the edge of the wall. Nail it in place.
- 4). Install the next row in the same way as the first. Use a tape measure to make sure the board is level and flush before you nail it in. When you reach a window or door frame, simply mark the distance with a tape measure and pencil, and cut the boards to fit around each obstruction.
- 5). Continue to install the planking until the entire home is covered.
