Hemorrhoid Treatment and Prevention

Before we look at possible treatments for hemorrhoids we will look at how to prevent them ever coming back (or how to prevent getting them in the first place!).
This way, once you have applied the correct hemorrhoid treatment you will not have to worry about them again.
Hemorrhoid Prevention Tips
  • If you need to defecate try not to hold on - find a toilet! Otherwise you are at risk of constipation - a common cause of internal hemorrhoids.
  • Eat plenty of fiber (combined with a healthy diet).
Replace white bread and pasta with their brown wholegrain alternatives.
This will help to keep things moving.
  • If possible, avoid straining your anal muscles overly whilst on the toilet.
Strainingis a very common cause of hemorrhoids and with the right diet (high fiber) it can usually be avoided.
  • Drink plenty of liquids! Your body needs 8 glasses of water per day just to keep it running properly, so try your best to drink them.
  • Exercise regularly
  • Avoid lifting heavy items and objects! Learn how to lift properly if you have to lift heavy items (bend your knees, straight back, etc)
OK, now we know how to stop them coming back, so now lets take a look at the treatments.
Treatments may vary depending on the severity of your hemorrhoids.
There are medications available over the counter or on the internet, but these are not recommended for a variety of reasons but especially if you have depression, difficulty urinating, hypertension or diabetes - amongst other things.
Ice on external hemorrhoids may help relive the pain temporary.
Do not eat spicy foods and this may irritate them.
Try not to sit down all day but instead go for a walk during your free time.
