Great Music Colleges

    The Juilliard School of Music

    • Juilliard is known world-wide as having one of the best dance, theater and music programs. Located in Manhattan, New York, Juilliard is known for tough competition. Your acceptance into Juilliard is based on talent alone; standardized test scores typically used for college admissions aren't even taken into consideration by Juilliard. You will be asked to audition in front of members of the school, and they will determine whether you will be accepted.

According to the Juilliard Website, of all of the prospective students who apply and audition for Juilliard, only about 8 percent are accepted. At the Juilliard School of Music, the students will learn different avenues of music in their courses, such as private study with Juilliard professors, music history, music theory and ear training.

    Harvard College of Music

    • Known for its excellence in academics around the world, Harvard is also known for its graduate program in the Department of Music. There are three programs at Harvard: the Program in Musicology, Program in Theory and the Program in Composition. In addition to completing 16 graduate courses, different languages must also be mastered. In addition to its graduate program, Harvard also has an undergraduate program in music. Because Harvard is not considered a conservatory, there are no performance degrees available. This also means that you do not have to audition to be accepted into the music program; you do have to be accepted into Harvard University.
