Educational qualification
A CNA should be well trained in all relevant nursing skills such as feeding, bathing and basic grooming. They must also have good knowledge of complete nutrition, human anatomy and physical therapy. In addition, he must be proficient in checking vital signs, manage bed sores and control infection. These skills and knowledge can be gained by attending state and OBRA-87 CNA training program
Certification or degree/diploma
Before applying for a job as a nurse aide, a person must have an approved CNA certification. You can earn the certification by appearing and passing competency evaluation exam.
The certification is valid for two years before it gets expired. Before expiration of certificate, you must apply for its renewal. It is mandatory that a nurse aide must submit proof of working against compensation for certain hours within two years as required by the specific state authority. Further, he must accomplish all necessary prerequisites of a particular state for renewal.
Good communication skill
Efficiency in communication helps a nursing person to interact with patients effectively. Patience and serenity are essential to deal with disturbed & irritate patients.
Physical fitness or good stamina
As nursing job requires lots of physical strength, good physical fitness is a crucial quality of a nursing aide. CNA must be able to work continuously for a longer stretch of time by standing, walking, meandering and assisting the movement of the patients. And capability to perform energetically is also vitality. There are always emergencies in hospitals so a nursing person should have ability to take immediate decisions.
Effective interpersonal skills
At the time of giving services to patient CNA builds a relation with him, therefore he must have effective interpersonal skills so that patient can rely on him and also while interacting with RN or physician and reporting them on every day condition of the patient nurse aide requires good interpersonal skill
CPR certificate
A CNA must possess CPR certificate and well trained in CPR to save a patient with cardiac arrest or heart problems.
