At times, this is self-inflicted because we tend to be couch potatoes and sit watching TV for long periods.
At other times, it comes as a result of working at a computer throughout the day and sitting in an uncomfortable chair.
This can cause an incredible strain on our back and it can create back problems that are rather difficult to cure.
If you would like to be able to overcome this problem, you need to find a way to modify the way that you are sitting.
The easiest way for you to be able to do this is to get up and move around on a regular basis.
Many people that sit for their jobs for extended periods of time may even set a timer so that they make sure that they get up and walk around for a few minutes every hour.
Just the simple act of getting out of your seat can make an amazing difference in the way that your back feels at the end of the day.
You may also want to try doing some exercises in your chair if you are unable to get up and walk around.
Something else that you may want to consider doing is switching the type of seat that you have.
If you're sitting in an uncomfortable chair it is going to put you back in an awkward position throughout the day.
Even a slight unnatural curve in your spine is going to make an amazing difference in how poorly you feel after a long day in the chair.
Purchasing an ergonomic chair maybe a little bit expensive but in the long run it is going to save you a lot of pain and perhaps some medical expenses.
You might also want to try sitting on a Pilates ball throughout the day as this will help to strengthen your core muscles and to put your back into proper alignment while you're working.
A combination of all of these things is the best way for you to overcome many of the back problems that are experienced because of sitting for work.
If you are able to overcome your problems by making the simple changes, you may just find that you are more productive whenever you are sitting down.
