- Once a registered nurse has completed her basic educational requirements, she may choose to receive further education. She may choose to specialize in a certain field of medicine such as pediatrics or oncology. She may also choose to complete an additional advanced degree such as a master's degree. If a nurse completes additional education, it can lead to additional promotional opportunities such as employment as a nurse manager.
