- 1). Place the poster board on a flat work table. Position the yardstick 1/2-inch under the place where you plan to write. The gap will give you room to work while allowing the yardstick to serve as a guide for straight printing, whether for stencils or for freehand writing.
- 2). Position the lettering stencils at the edge of the ruler if you are not comfortable writing freehand. With stencils, you know how each letter will look and that others will recognize the letters. Sometimes handwriting is harder for others to read. Lightly trace around the inner edge of each stencil letter to draft the text for your poster.
- 3). Select the desired poster marker color and gently shake the marker. If you are filling in stenciled letters, add color inside the traced lines using the pointed corner tip of the marker. If you are printing the text on your poster freehand, write with the thick part of the marker tip to make a thick ink line that viewers will be able to see.
