Las Vegas is a barren desert locale located in the southwest corner of Nevada, a 265-mile drive from Los Angeles, California. The lion habitat at the MGM Grand is located next to the box office at the entryway to the resort, offering views of lions walking beside the glass. The lions spend about six hours a day in the habitat. They live at a ranch 12 miles out of town and are transported to the habitat for appearances. Several budget hotels are located on the southern end of the strip, convenient to the lion habitat. - MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, home of the lion habitat, is on the southern end of the strip on the northeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. The rooms are spacious, measuring 446 square feet. The hotel provides a grand pool complex, featuring five swimming pools, three whirlpools and a rambling river. You'll find a diverse selection of dining opportunities ranging from a casual tavern to an elegant five-diamond rated restaurant. The hotel provides plenty of shopping possibilities including souvenirs, fine jewelry and clothing. As of October 2010, rates start at $55 per night.
